Public Safety and Security in the Studebaker Building

While Manhattanville is located in the police precinct ranked 7th lowest (of 76 precincts citywide) in overall crime reported in 2006, the Department of Public Safety maintains a strong presence in the area and has taken a number of measures to maintain a high level of security in the building and the surrounding area.

Building Access
A public safety officer will be in the lobby of the building 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.  Employees need their Columbia University identification card to enter the building.

Vehicle Patrol
Public Safety maintains round the clock vehicle patrol in the Manhattanville area, 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

Emergency Call Boxes
For immediate communication with Columbia Public Safety, use one of the emergency call boxes visible throughout the area.  For better visibility, a blue light is affixed to the telephone pole.  For a list of call box locations, click here

Shuttle Routes
Beginning June 4, 2007, Columbia will add a new shuttle bus route between the Morningside campus, Studebaker and the subway station at 125 St. and St. Nicholas Ave. (A, B, C, D trains).

A full route and schedule are available on the Transportation website.

Point to Point Service
After the scheduled evening shuttle hours, Columbia staff, faculty and students may request point to point service for door-to-door transportation. This service is available from 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on weekdays, and from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on weekends. The on-call service area stretches from West 103rd Street to West 135th Street and from Frederick Douglass Boulevard to Riverside Drive. For service, call 212-854-SAFE (212-854-7233), and a driver will be dispatched to your location.

Police Precincts
The Department of Public Safety maintains an excellent liaison with the 26th Police Precinct as well as other local precincts and fire companies, including cooperating in crime prevention strategies. The 26th Precinct is located on West 126th Street, between Old Broadway and Amsterdam Ave.
