Michael will be happy to discuss any special issues or requests that you may have, and can be reached through the building management office or at ma2630@columbia.edu.
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
Studebaker’s renovation features an energy-efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. The building’s cooling and heating systems are designed to automatically maintain space temperatures of approximately 68 degrees during the heating season and approximately 76 degrees during the cooling season, as required by Columbia University’s Indoor Space Temperature Guidelines. If a problem arises, please contact the Facilities Services Center.
Housekeeping & Maintenance
Please help us keep Studebaker clean. General cleaning of the office areas, lavatories, and kitchens/lunchrooms are performed five days a week, Monday through Friday. Large or heavy trash can be collected by placing a request with the Facilities Service Center. If you have any maintenance concerns, please call the Facilities Services Center.
Recycling
We are strongly committed to recycling at Studebaker. Recyclables and trash are collected every day.
Please do your part by using the following containers:
Paper
Recycling bins are available at your desk, near the copy machines and in other designated areas for paper. They will be collected for recycling every day. Please do not throw food, cans, or anything other than paper in these containers.
Bottles, Cans & Plastics
Please use the recycling containers in the pantries and in other designated areas to recycle bottles, cans and plastics.
Batteries & Toner Cartridges
Recycling bins for batteries and toner cartridges will be placed on each floor.
Trash
Please use trash cans for food and other non-recyclables.
Recycling is one of the most important and most practical contributions you can make to environmental stewardship efforts at Columbia. Check out the Guide to Recycling at Columbia for more information.
Keys
If you have lost your key or need a copy of a key, please contact your departmental administrator who will work with Facilities to provide you with a new key. For security reasons, the duplication of keys by outside locksmiths is strictly prohibited. Lost keys must be immediately reported to Public Safety.
Keeping Studebaker Clean
Reduce Clutter
Items left on office floors such as cardboard boxes and other paper items make it hard to clean effectively. Try to store these items on shelving. Where possible, keep electrical, computer and phone lines up off the floor. This makes it much easier for cleaners to clean under desks and tables.
Proper Disposal of Food Waste
Any food waste left in conference rooms, offices or at workstations has the potential to produce odors and attract pests. If you eat lunch at your desk please consider depositing your food waste in a larger waste container.
Use Refrigerators in Pantries
Cubical refrigerators are not allowed at Studebaker. Please use the pantry refrigerators on each floor to store your food and drinks.
Let us Know
Report any problems or issues immediately to the Facilities Services Center.
Keeping Studebaker Green
Lights
In areas that have more than adequate lighting (i.e. corridors or near windows), turn off every other light.
Turn off lights when leaving a room for more than one minute.
Comfort
Dress appropriately for the season; wear layers of clothing during the winter months.
Avoid the use of portable electric space heaters; call the Facilities Services Center for rooms too hot or too cold.
Keep exterior doors and windows closed during the heating and cooling seasons, this will save energy and allow the HVAC system to operate efficiently.
During the heating season, open blinds, drapes, and curtains to allow sunlight in for solar heat gain. In the evenings, close blinds, drapes, and curtains to reduce thermal heat loss.
Electrical Appliances
Turn off all unused electrical appliances when not in use.
Enable power-saving features on all equipment.
Computers
Turn off your monitor when going to lunch or a meeting.
If possible, turn off your computer during the evening and on weekends. Use the ''print preview'' option to find errors before printing.
Paper
Recycle all office paper. Saving paper saves energy!
